Dear Lila

Dear Lila,

I am sending you much love from Psychologies in the UK. I’m Oscar, the Psychologies office dog but today Je Suis Charlie.

Lila, I send you my utter condolences. I love my team here and I cannot imagine how it must feel to lose the people who you have worked alongside for so long.

It’s funny being an office dog – isn’t it? We love our owners but we love our office family too – their energy, their creativity, laughter, tantrums and meltdowns, the long walks at lunchtime where you hear the gossip, joy and ideas – and dramas.

I have learned to love my work family almost as much as I love my owners. Yes, they can be tricky at times – they do such strange and weird things, and react in unpredicable ways and believe odd things about life. They argue with each other, cry and sometimes shout a lot. They are all so different, and they often disagree and have opposing views but over time, with my unconditional love, I believe I’ve been teaching them a lot about tolerance, understanding and acceptance. It’s about loving them all unconditionally.

And as we dogs know – unconditional love is the answer.

I know it must be hard not to hate the people who have done this to your family. So I’m sending you some of my office family’s favourite quotes to keep the force strong within you – and to keep your tail wagging.

'I believe that unarmed truth and unconditional love will have the final word in reality. This is why right, temporarily defeated, is stronger than evil triumphant'Martin Luther King, Jr

'When I despair, I remember that all through history the way of truth and love have always won. There have been tyrants and murderers, and for a time, they can seem invincible, but in the end, they always fall. Think of it – always' – Mahatma Gandhi

And my own personal favourite – I hope it will inspire you to be the change you want to see in the world:

'A dog will teach you unconditional love. If you can have that in your life, things won't be too bad' – Robert Wagner

Sending you much love,

Oscar the dog
