So you’ve got your coaching qualification and you’re now in business! Congratulations, this is a huge step. It’s such an exciting time too. You’re full of energy, optimism, plans, dreams, and goals.
You’re busy! Busier than you’ve been in a long time. Maybe you’re might be making lists, listening to podcasts or watching webinars. You’re trying to pull together all the pieces that you’ll need in order to build a successful coaching business from the ground up (likely on a limited budget too!)
I know, because I’ve been there too.
I’ve sat in front of my computer, wondering how to build a website. I’ve drawn a zillion mindmaps thinking about opt-ins. I’ve fried my brain with funnels.
It doesn’t matter how successful you were in your career, nothing can really prepare you for the intricacies of running your own business.
As a new coach, consultant or healer with a fledgling business you have a lot of shiny options to look at. It’s important to get the basics right in the beginning so that you can build on them with the right strategies and mindset work. All of which moves you forward strategically so that success becomes inevitable.
For an overview of creating your coaching, consulting or healing business, please read my 5 Day introduction here on LifeLabs, you can read them HERE. The article will give you a really simple overview of what is important right now in the early stages of your business.
If you’re ready to start putting your plans into action, and you’re looking at what kind of opt-in gift to create, read on!
I’m proceeding on the basis that you know what an opt-in gift is.
Before we get started, grab some pens and paper. Now comes the really important bit…
Opt-in Gifts should adhere to three simple rules:
- fix only ONE problem
- short and simple; quick to read and implement
- engaging enough to hold your prospect’s attention
Now you know the rules, it’s time to look at some ideas for great opt-in gifts.
Fix only one problem
The first thing to consider is what one problem you are going to help your ideal client fix. Your opt-in gift should be a part of your process. It should already feature in the work that you do (or the work you’re going to do if you’re just starting out). It should be one step and no more. You want your ideal client to get a win. You want them to be able to download your opt-in gift and take action right away.
If you’re a branding consultant your ideal client might be struggling to come up with a theme or colour scheme for their brand.
If you’re a stylist, your ideal client might want to know what colours suit them.
Short and simple, quick to consume and implement
Next, decide what format your opt-in gift will take. You have a lot of options, including but not limited to the following:
- a checklist
- a cheat sheet
- a video series
- an email series
- a quiz
- an ebook
- a report
- a free consultation
- some software
- a template
- an audio
As you can see, even choosing the format your opt-in gift will take can be tricky.
Let’s look at the branding consultant and stylist from above. An ideal opt-in gift might be a quiz that helps ideal clients discover their preferred colour palette or theme. If you’re a stylist, you might offer a style checklist that tells them which clothes suit their body shape or which colours suit their hair and skin tone.
Engaging enough to hold your prospect’s attention
The final thing for you to do is to walk your ideal client through the steps to get your opt-in gift. This is the point at which you have to be clear, consistent and engaging. Stay true to your brand in terms of fonts, colours, and images. Your message should be instantly recognisable no matter what part of the process the ideal client is in. Tell your ideal client exactly what problem your opt-in gift will solve. Tell a short story, grab their attention. Ask them to claim or download the gift.
Putting it all together
As a new coach, consultant or healer, it’s important to start building your reach as soon as possible. Opt-in gifts are an ideal way in which to do this by giving a gift in exchange for someone’s email address.
