Ever find yourself forgetting what day of the week it is? But do you also notice that you never mistake a Monday for a Friday? You probably do ok with weekend days too.
Researchers writing in a piece called Mental Representations of Weekdays explain that this is to do with the mental representations we attach to each day.
Mondays and Fridays both have strong identities – (blue) Mondays are the start of the working week; words like ‘boring’ and ‘hectic” stick in our minds, but Friday is all about ‘freedom’ and ‘parties’!
Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday carry less meaning for us and have less of a character, and so that’s why we get more easily confused midweek.
