Retreats for mothers and daughters
Retreat Editor and founder of Queen of Retreats Caroline Sylger Jones says retreat getaways are brilliant for mums and daughters in need of ‘us time’
A mother is your first love and often your best friend and role model, so what better person with whom to go on a soul-nourishing retreat? When I take a break with my mother, we giggle and chat in a way that we usually don’t have the time and space for in our everyday lives back home. Short spa breaks at hotels for mothers and daughters have been around for a while, but what about if you want something altogether deeper and more rejuvenating for you both?
Where shall we go?
There are many interesting retreats around the world that make great wellbeing breaks on which mums and their girls can bond and build their friendship at any age. My nine-year-old daughter and I have just spent a joyous week on a Holy Mama retreat on Ibiza, and there are an increasing number of retreats out there that cater for parents with younger children. If your daughter is older and you’re feeling adventurous, book a once-in-a lifetime trip together into the wilds of Iceland with Reclaim Your Self for whale watching, horse riding, hiking and yoga, or head to Morocco with Yoga Explorers and indulge in hammams and mountain walks between classes.
For true nurture, Kaliyoga runs a clever hormone balance retreat and other healthy escapes for all ages in Spain and Italy while, back in the UK, there’s The Zest Life’s mellow weekends of yoga, nourishing meals and outdoor time in Wales. Whatever you choose, don’t wait till Mother’s Day or a special occasion – just book something for the sheer joy of it, and each other.
